Question

Is extreme weather taken into account as a possible explanation of decline of farmland and forest birds?

Answer

Extreme weather conditions can strongly influence bird populations. However, this results in yearly fluctuations that are normal for animal populations. The indicator is designed to detect trends that are superimposed on those normal fluctuations, and the long time series we dispose of warrants that it can do so.
