Status of common bird monitoring and atlas work in Luxembourg

Monitoring


Present schemes

No common bird monitoring schemes currently running in Luxembourg. Yearly national monitoring schemes exist for certain species such as Ciconia nigra, Falco peregrinus and Bubo bubo. The launching of a common bird monitorimg scheme is being actively discussed with Ministry of Environment.

Atlas work


Latest atlas

Census period: 1976-1980. Method: Breeding criteria in 5 x 5 km squares. No densities estimated. Atlas published in 1987 Atlas of Breeding Birds in Luxembourg (Melchior et al. 1987).


Previous atlases

None.


Ongoing atlases

For the moment no ongoing atlas work, but some species (Milvus milvus and M. migrans, Cinclus cinclus, Lanius excubitor) are monitored annually on a national scale, or on a regional scale (Lanius collurio).
